Twenty four gamers braved the cold for our December game night. As we so often do we started the night off with a puzzle game called On the Dot. It is amazing how fast some people are with this and how slow some others are. I'm not naming names. It's a challenging little race to see who can match the card by twisting, turning, and stacking your own transparent set of cards. This was seen in New Hartford for $5 at Five Below. It is also at Wegmans in the Christmas Clearance. If you like puzzle games this is a good one, so pick it up.
Fitting to the season of giving some gamers sat down to GiftTrap. Do you know what your friends would want as gifts? Can you guess what they would get you? You have to balance knowing both in this crazy game of gift giving and getting. OK, so you might know that one person would love some jewelry or a new TV, but you only have a few cards as choices and some of them may not be a perfect fit for some. What would you do with feathered cap? The gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Aside from the normal items you can give out gifts of labor like someone to come in and clean your house or clean your car. The gifts can be lavish like a stay in a castle, your own private island, or a ride in a fighter jet. They can also be fantasies that don't exist like giving the gift of flight to someone, invisibility, or to live in ones dreams. No gift is off limits in GiftTrap.
Our game group wouldn't be the same if someone, somewhere weren't playing Castle Panic. A couple of new knights joined in the struggle along side some veterans as they fought off the hordes.
I said it was gonna happen and it finally did! After a successful campaign to introduce Small World to the Game Group, then getting in a game of Pandemic last time, we finally got the classic Cosmic Encounter to the table. There was a slow take off due to some fog (foggy memory of rules that is), but once we got off the ground it turned out to be a blast. We all had a good mix of aliens and wielded their powers with deadly precision. In the end the Barbarian's looting and pillaging other player's cards overtook the Zombie's regenerative abilities, the vacuums's skill at pulling other players into the void along with them, the Trader's hand swapping, and the Kudgel's smash.
A new Christmas themed version of the public domain game Celebrity made its world debut at the game group. Christmas Celebration is a fun journey through over 700 words, phrases, or titles having something to do with Christmas. Can you get your team to guess what they are? Next time through can you get them to guess with only one word? Last time through you can't use any words. I hope you are good at Charades. We've played the game several times now and hope to bring it out again next year for more Christmas Celebration fun.
Christmas Celebration was so much fun Dancing Eggs was left alone and abandoned. :-(
... meanwhile... 2 warriors... slipped away in secret... and challenged one another... to a duel of unimaginable power.. Ninja vs Ninja. These Ninjas are so good that they can't be identified on the board. It makes it difficult to play that way, but worth the experience.
Always willing to try something new we had someone trying to teach juggling at the Game Group. Here they are trying to juggle the Diablo. A yo yo that isn't attached to the string. Watch out for flying diablos.
Hooray! Dancing Eggs got played after all! This is another Game Group favorite and many time repeater. It's just too fun and proves that eggs are not only fun at Easter time, but any time.
DISCLAIMER: NO GAMBLING TOOK PLACE AT THE GAME GROUP. WE DO NOT ENDORSE GAMBLING UNLESS IT IS FOR M&Ms. OK, NOT EVEN THEN, AT LEAST PROBABLY NOT. WAIT, ARE YOU SAYING YOU HAVE M&Ms? There was some interest in learning the basics of Poker, namely the hot game of the moment Texas Hold'em. We'll have to get out the game Parlay soon which combines Poker with a word game. AGAIN NO GAMBLING WILL TAKE PLACE, BUT PLEASE BRING M&Ms TO THE GAME GROUP.
We made another journey into the pyramid for a chance of finding Incan Gold. Like so many times before the traps caught us more often than not and some of us barely escaped, but treasure and artifacts made the expedition a success.
These foam guns are a huge hit and we haven't even played the game that they were bought for. Oh well next time we'll have to debut the Star Wars retheme of the game Cash and Guns that I call Bounties and Blasters.
